Be Precise

Always measure with a steel tape. Never use a cloth tape.

Measure sizes to the nearest millimetre.

Don't be surprised if your windows are not perfectly square. Most aren't. You probably won't notice.

On your notes clearly indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height. It is very common to transpose measurements. Try to always measure the width first, then the height.

Inside vs Outside Mount

Inside Mount

Inside mount blinds are installed inside the window casing. Minimum depth requirements vary by product

Measure the exact inside width of window casing from one inside edge to the other in 3 different places. Record the narrowest measurement.

Measure the exact height in 3 different places from top edge of opening to top of sill. Record the longest measurement.

Do not take any deductions for clearance. The factory will take necessary deductions for a perfect fit.

Outside Mount

Outside mount blinds and shades are installed outside the window casing, covering an area larger than the window itself.

Measure the exact width to be covered. Be sure the measurement overlaps the window opening by at least 1-1/2″ on each side (3″ total overlap) to ensure light control and privacy.

Measure exact height to be covered, including desired overlap (typically from top edge of molding to bottom edge, or to top of sill if there is one).

The factory makes NO allowances on outside mount.

Horizontal Venetian Blinds (25mm)

Inside Mount

We recommend an Inside Mount whenever possible for a neater look.

When you specify an inside mount, provide us the EXACT window opening size.

DO NOT TAKE A DEDUCTION! Manufacturers will automatically deduct approximately 3/8" to 1/2" so your products will operate properly and not rub against your window frame.

FOR WIDTH, measure in three places and use the narrowest width.

FOR HEIGHT, measure in three places and use the longest measurement for all products.

Note that there should be at least 25mm spacing to fit aluminium 25mm blinds inside mount.

Outside Mount

Outside mounts hang outside the window opening either on the wood frame or above and beyond the wood frame. That will make your window appear bigger and hide unattractive windows.

Outside Mounts are necessary whenever your window openings are too shallow to place a window covering.

To ensure minimum light gaps and maximum privacy, 10cm on each side for horizontal blinds. Leave room for the mounting brackets, which can be 1 to 3 inches tall.

For outside mounts, specify the exact width and exact height you want the product to be. We will make your product the exact size you specify and we will not take any deductions. So you must add to the window opening measurement to allow for mounting brackets and the distance you want to go past the window.

Horizontal Wooden Blinds (50mm)

Before you start

Decide whether you want to install the blinds inside the window or on the face of the wall.

Check the depth of the window. The blinds must be able to rotate/tilt freely inside the window or be installed on the face of the wall. The wooden blind will be able to rotate easily if the depth of recess is deeper than 65mm.

Please check for any obstruction that might interfere with the blinds, e.g burglar bars or window handles.

Inside Mount

When you specify an inside mount, provide us the EXACT window opening size. DO NOT TAKE A DEDUCTION! Manufacturers will automatically deduct approximately 10mm to 15mm so your product will operate properly and not rub against your window frame.

FOR WIDTH, measure in three places and use the narrowest width.

FOR HEIGHT, measure in three places and use the longest measurement for all products.

Outside Mount

Measure the width of the window and add 100mm (50mm overlapping on each side). Measure the drop of the window and add 100mm (50mm overlapping on each side).

Please note that a protruding sill/burglar bars/window handle...may affect the movement of the window blind.

Always specify if the blinds are recess or face fix.

Wooden Blinds

Vertical Blinds

Inside Mount

Measure the width top, centre and bottom, recording the narrowest width.

Measure the height left, right and centre recording the shortest height.

When you specify inside mount, we will make your blind slightly smaller than specified to allow for operating clearance. We will deduct between 1/16" to 3/8" from the width on each side, and 1/4" to 1/2" from the height.

You should also verify that there is enough space for the fabric to tilt while opening the blinds, which is about 100mm.

Outside Mount

Measure the opening width. If there is room, add at least 4" on each side of the window opening to ensure minimum light gap.

Measure the opening height. Add a minimum of 2 1/2" in height to allow for mounting brackets above the opening and add your desired overlap for the bottom.

If your window treatment will hang down to the floor, please allow at least 1/2" clearance on the bottom for proper operation.

If you specify an outside mount, we will not take any size deductions - your blind will be made at the exact size you specify.
